Our Story
The Story of YWAM Cross Wind
The journey of Ben and Grace Smith began with a powerful call to camp ministry. In 2003, they founded Camp David to serve some of the most vulnerable children: those of prisoners and foster kids.
Their calling took a significant turn in 2015. After their oldest daughter completed her DTS at YWAM Madison and they witnessed her transformation, God gave Ben and Grace a dream of starting a YWAM base. Their vision was to allow the at-risk youth they were already serving to also experience this profound and lasting transformation. This dream moved closer to reality in 2021 when Ben and Grace, along with their youngest children, completed their own DTS at YWAM Chico. Upon graduation, YWAM Chico officially endorsed their pioneering vision for a new base in central Kansas. Just a year later, in 2022, God provided a remarkable miracle: the funds to purchase a beautiful, 61-acre property completely debt-free. The land came equipped with two large conference centers and lodging for over 150 people.
Today, their passion is to equip those who have experienced healing from trauma to carry the light of Jesus Christ to the nations.
